Sonia R. Sehgal MD

Dr. Sonia R. Sehgal is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where she holds the Archstone Chair in Geriatric Medicine. She is a board-certified internist and geriatrician specializing in the care and treatment of older adults and serves as Medical Director of UCI’s SeniorHealth Center.

Dr. Sehgal also serves as Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship and a Dean’s Scholar at the UCI School of Medicine. She has received numerous awards for her excellence in teaching, clinical care and academic service, including the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Gold Star Award from the Gold Humanism Honor Society. From 2017 to 2024, she directed the curriculum for UCI’s Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program, supporting geriatric education for physicians, residents, medical students, nursing students and pharmacy students. The Orange County Medical Association has recognized her as a Physician of Excellence annually since 2012 for her contributions to geriatric care.
