Sonia Lupien is Director of the Center for Studies on Human Stress (CESH) at the Université de Montréal Mental Health Institute. She is interested in the effects of stress during a lifetime and has conducted studies in children and young adults. His studies have shown that even children are vulnerable to the effects of stress, and that some secrete high levels of hormones as early as 6 years of age.

Her studies in young adults have led her to demonstrate the acute and chronic effects of stress hormones on memory and emotional regulation. Finally, his studies on older populations have demonstrated the harmful effects of chronic stress on the hippocampus, a region involved in learning and memory.

As part of her new research projects, she focuses on male / female differences in responsiveness to stress and its effects on memory and emotional regulation. She has developed the De-Stress and Progress program to empower children to make the transition from elementary school to high school, a period in which children are greatly vulnerable to stress. His team is now working on adapting it for adults in the workplace. She is the Chair of Mental Health for Men and Women of the Canadian Institutes of Gender and Health.
