Song-hai Shi PhD

Song-Hai Shi, Ph.D., is a professor and member of the Developmental Biology Program at the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Science, Sloan Kettering Institute/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, New York. His research focuses on deciphering the mechanisms underlying the assembly and operation of neural circuits in the neocortex under normal and disease conditions.

He received his undergraduate training in biological sciences and biotechnology at Tsinghua University, China, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in genetics and neuroscience from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and State University of New York at Stony Brook. He then completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, and thereafter joined Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a faculty member.

His expertise and achievement has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Amersham Biosciences and Science Grand Prize, the McKnight Scholar Award, the Blavatnik Award for Young Scientists and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute-Faculty Scholar award.
