Somshuvra Mukhopadhyay PhD

Somshuvra Mukhopadhyay is Professor and Fellow of the James E. Bauerle Centennial Professorship in the Division of Pharmacology at the University of Texas at Austin. He has a medical degree from India, a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from New York Medical College, and he completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University. He started his independent career at UT Austin in 2013, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019, and Professor in 2025. Dr. Mukhopadhyay's research focuses on gene-environment interactions in Parkinsonism. He has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2013 (over $10 million in NIH funding). His work is routinely published in high-impact and selective journals (e.g., PNAS, etc.) and covered in feature articles (e.g., NIH/NIEHS Paper of the Year 2019). He holds several influential leadership positions in international organizations (e.g., at the Society of Toxicology, International Society for Trace Element Research in Humans). He is a standing member of the NIH NAL study section.
