David R. Smith MD

Dr. Smith is the founder and Executive Director of Universal Regen, an innovative clinic offering state-of-the-art, biological solutions for chronic pain.

Dr. Smith graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 with a combined degree in Biology, Psychology, and Physical Anthropology. His honors upon graduation included acceptance into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Society. Dr. Smith received his medical degree in 1991 from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. Following medical school, he completed an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency in Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Smith finished his training in Seattle, Washington where he completed an Astra Fellowship in Regional Anaesthesia and began his career-long interest in the use of nerve blocks to bring safety, comfort, and relief of pain to his patients.

Dr. Smith has practiced chronic interventional pain medicine since 2010, and over that time, has safely performed over 5000 X-ray-guided procedures. Dr. Smith is an expert in the use of ultrasound imaging and injections for the treatment of joint, ligament, and tendon pathology. He serves on the faculty at several national conferences and he is followed on LinkedIn by over 1400 medical professionals.

Dr. Smith is a proud member of the Orthobiologics Ethics Consortium, a multidisciplinary group of health care providers interested in the promotion of ethical research, marketing, and clinical use of orthobiologics. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and licensed to practice both in New York State, USA, and Ontario, Canada. He lives in Toronto with his wonderful fiance Nadia, and he is the proud father of 3 boys.
