Dr. Smita Jha, MD, is the Director of Bone and Mineral Disorders Research at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. She completed her fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health with a research focus on disorders of bone and mineral metabolism, primarily parathyroid diseases.

Jha has authored scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has over 200 citations. She presents regularly at scientific conferences and was awarded the NIH Group Merit Award and the NICHD Collaboration Award for her work. She is also a recipient of the Helmsley Charitable Trust Abstract Award by the Endocrine Society for her work on the inpatient management of diabetes and its complications. Her article on the relative decline in the use of anti-osteoporosis drugs, published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Outstanding Article of the Year Award by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She has been recognized for excellence in teaching and serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals.
