Professor Sinthia Bosnic-Anticevich is a researcher and specialist respiratory pharmacist, internationally recognised as an expert in respiratory medicines uses. She is the founder and Research Leader of the Quality Use of Respiratory Medicines Group at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research.

Sinthia’s research has led to the development of the “gold standards” in the use of inhalers, impacting national and international treatment guidelines for asthma, COPD, and allergic rhinitis. Her research with different patient populations, healthcare professionals, and healthcare settings is key to our understanding of how to optimize the use of respiratory medicines for improved health outcomes and care delivery.

In collaboration with her network of multidisciplinary, global collaborators, she has over 200 research publications, has been awarded over $20M in research funding, and has a reputation for an innovative and pragmatic approach to solving healthcare problems associated with medicine use. She is regularly invited to present both nationally and internationally, to clinicians across a range of health disciplines on the topic of respiratory medicines use.

From 2000 – 2023, Sinthia was a teaching-research academic in the Faculty of Pharmacy, (University of Sydney); developing innovative Units of Study for Pharmacy, utilizing novel educational and social theories, resulting in the publication of several pedagogical manuscripts. It was during her early academic years that Sinthia co-founded the Women for Pharmacy Committee; its mission was to support women in pharmacy to achieve their career aspirations. This resulted in the establishment of 8 women’s networks across metropolitan and regional Australia and resulted in hundreds of women in pharmacy successfully attaining employment, establishing business partnerships, and achieving selection onto professional pharmacy organization boards. Five years after its establishment, the governance of the Women for Pharmacy Committee was transferred to the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and is still active today.

Sinthia is the Past President of the Respiratory Effectiveness Group (REG); Executive Director of ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis in Asthma), Chair of Pharmacy ARIA, and Past Chair of the Primary Care SIG of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. Sinthia is on the Editorial Board of several prestigious international respiratory journals, including the European Respiratory, European Respiratory Journal Monograph, and The Medical Republic (Australia’s most widely circulated GP newsletter). Sinthia sits on several global advisory boards for the pharmaceutical industry, associated with the use of medicines in the management of respiratory diseases.
