Silvia Regina Brandalise is a Chairman of the Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Service at the Department of Pediatrics, and Medical Sciences Faculty at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Sao Paulo, Brazil (1970-2013). In 1970 invited to be a full-time professor at UNICAMP, where she founded the Blood Coagulation laboratory in the University, being in charge of it from 1970-to 1977. Also founded the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center (1994), and introduced the population-based Sickle Cell Neonatal Screening Program in the city of Campinas (1994), which was the first one in Brazil. Till March 2013 was in charge of the Neonatal Screening Program in Campinas. She was in charge of the Post-graduation Program in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UNICAMP till 2013. Dr Brandalise was elected in 1979 as Coordinator of the Brazilian Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Children Cooperative Group (GBTLI), by the Brazilian Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy, further recognized by the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Oncology (SOBOPE), where she maintained in charge of GBTLI till now. Founder of Boldrini´s Children Center, a nonprofit hospital in Campinas, specialized in pediatric hematology and oncology (1978). From 1980 till now she was elected as President of the Directory Board. Dr. Brandalise actively participated in the foundation of the Latin America and Brazilian Pediatric Oncology Societies. being elected as Vice-President (1981-1982) and President of SOBOPE (1991-1992) and of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP) (2003-2011). She was indicated as a Consultive member of the Hemoglobinopathy Program at the São Paulo Health Secretary and a member of the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at the Ministry of Health. She has authored more than 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as abstracts and textbook chapters primarily focusing on pediatric hematology/oncology. Participated as reviewer of Brazilian scientific journals (Jornal da Sociedade Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia, Jornal do Instituto Nacional do Cancer, Jornal de Pediatria, Revista Brasileira de Cancerologia, Revista da Associação Médica Brasileira) and more recently of international Journals (Pediatric Blood and Cancer and Lancet Oncology). Dr Brandalise is a member of the International Childhood Cancer Consortium (ICCC). She is a recipient of several honorable titles for outstanding contributions to the pediatric hematology/oncology fields in Brazil.
