Dr. Shiyi Chen is the Vice President, Dean of Graduate School, and Dean of the Shenzhen Graduate School at Peking University. He was the founding Dean of the College of Engineering. Chen is a University Professor in Mechanics, the Director of the State Key Laboratory for Turbulence and Complex Systems, and the Director of PKU’s Center for Computational Science and Engineering. Prof. Shiyi Chen received his Ph. D from Peking University in 1987. He was an Oppenheimer Fellow and a research staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In 1994, he became a research staff member at the Department of Physical Sciences of IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. From 1997 to 1999, he served as the Deputy Director of the Center for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
He was the Alonzo G. Decker Jr. Chair in Engineering and Science at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Chair for the Department from 2002 to 2005 at JHU. Chen is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of Los Alamos National Laboratory, and a Fellow of the UK Institute of Physics. Prof. Shiyi Chen’s research interests include the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), fluid turbulence, and multiscale computational fluid dynamics.
