Shilpee Sinha MD

Dr. Shilpee Sinha is the Service Line Lead for the Indiana University Health Palliative Care Services at the Adult Academic Health Center and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her medical studies at the Armed Forces Medical College India and a Residency in Internal Medicine at Overlook Hospital, a UMDNJ-affiliated program in New Jersey. After completing a Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center Manhattan, Albert Einstein College of Medicine she joined the IU System in 2006. Dr. Sinha started working as a Hospitalist, providing primary palliative care and overseeing care for patients in the Yellow Rose Unit, a unit for patients nearing the end of life. She additionally served as an Associate Medical Director for Ruth Lilly Hospice. She transitioned to the Palliative Care service when it was formally established in 2011. During her years of service and through her leadership she has been integrally involved in developing IU Health's Palliative Care program at the AAHC and IU's Indiana Suburban Region hospitals, as well as in the community through outpatient clinics, a home-based service and novel virtual health hub based service extending the reach to critical access hospitals and rural areas across the state of Indiana. The service line has grown to over 4000 new consults annually across the spectrum. Dr. Sinha is a recipient of the IU School of Medicine ASPIRE Scholarship from 2017-2018 and used this research opportunity to explore advanced directives in the perioperative population. She is a co-founder of the Indiana Network for Hospice and Palliative Care, a statewide collaborative that was started in 2020. Her passion is caring for patients with serious illnesses and helping to advance palliative care at both a specialty level and a primary level.
