Shelley Ann Wiechman, PhD, ABPP (Rp), is the director of Psychological Services at UW Medicine's Regional Burn Center and Pediatric Trauma Center at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Wiechman is also a professor in the UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Wiechman is an expert in adjustment to injury or disability, non-pharmacological pain management, and pediatric mental health. She believes in creating active partnerships with patients to reach the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Wiechman earned her PhD in Psychology from the UW. She is board-certified in Rehabilitation Psychology. Her clinical interests include pain management, coping with injury and disability, management of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and body image concerns following injury, behavior management, and pediatric mental health. Her research interests include nonpharmacological treatments for pain and itch, long-term adjustment to burn injury, coping, and resiliency.

In addition to her work in injury rehabilitation, Dr. Wiechman also has advanced training in sport psychology. She works with the University of Washington Huskies, as well as other elite athletes. In her role as a Sport Psychologist, Dr. Wiechman helps our UW athletes achieve their peak performance in sport and in life. Whether it is excelling in sport, academics, or rehabilitation from injury, she uses evidence-based performance enhancement strategies to achieve their goals by improving mental toughness, performing under pressure, and managing adversity. She works to address issues like stress and coping, motivation, team dynamics, leadership skills, and mental health to enhance both individual and team success.
