Dr. Shayne Gue is the Founding Program Director of the BayCare Health System Emergency Medicine Residency Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. In this role, he is responsible for building a cutting-edge residency program from the ground up—designing curriculum, recruiting faculty and residents, and establishing a culture of educational excellence within one of Florida’s most dynamic health systems.

Dr. Gue was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, and earned his medical degree from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in 2015. He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at AdventHealth East Orlando, where he served as Chief Resident, was named Resident of the Year, and was elected President of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association of Florida.

He currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Florida College of Emergency Physicians and is Co-Chair of both the Membership and Professional Development Committee and the Symposium by the Sea Planning Committee. Nationally, he is an active member of committees within ACEP and SAEM, and is a frequent invited speaker at conferences such as ACEP, SAEM, CORD, IMSH, and ACOEP.

Dr. Gue is a proud graduate of the ACEP Teaching Fellowship and earned a Master of Science in Medical Education from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. His contributions to medical education have been recognized with numerous awards, including the AdventHealth GME Faculty of the Year (2020), the ACEP Microteaching Award (2021), the UCF Innovative Teaching Award (2022), and the UCF Emergency Medicine Educational Excellence Award (2023). He was also inducted into the 2022 Class of the ACEP Young Physicians Leadership Society and received the 2023 ACEP National Junior Faculty Teaching Award.

His educational interests focus on developing novel, interactive approaches to graduate medical education, emphasizing curriculum design, gamification, faculty development, and the integration of learning science principles to improve both resident engagement and outcomes.
