Dr. Shawn Larson, an associate professor of Pediatric Surgery, focuses on all aspects of the field, with special interest in pediatric trauma, pediatric burn care, neonatal surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery (including minimally invasive pediatric surgery). Dr. Larson serves as the medical director for the UF Health/Shands Children’s Hospital Pediatric Trauma & Burn Program.
His research interests include gastrointestinal physiology and immunology focusing on necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), neonatal and pediatric response to sepsis, pediatric trauma and pediatric burn care.
Dr. Larson joined the UF College of Medicine in 2011. He completed his Pediatric Surgical fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University, his general surgery residency at the University of South Florida, and a surgical research fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He earned his medical degree from the University of Sheffield School of Medicine in Sheffield, England. Dr. Larson earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida.
