Sharon Choi, MD, PhD, is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in the management of urologic malignancies, including prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers. She is committed to a multidisciplinary team approach, working closely with urologic and radiation oncologists to provide patients with the best possible treatment options. Her practice also focuses on early-phase clinical trials involving treatments such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy for all cancer types.
An assistant professor of medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Choi's research focuses on investigating biomarkers of cancer biology, response, and outcomes. She also conducts interventional trials with new and emerging therapies, particularly those that impact quality of life and cancer survivorship. She is currently investigating ways to improve treatment side effects from androgen deprivation therapy through lifestyle interventions and support systems. Dr. Choi has a particular interest in studies aimed at developing and refining strategies to understand the needs of patients across a broad range of experiences and regions in clinical trials. She is dedicated to exploring how genitourinary cancers impact patients from all sectors and remains committed to improving care for all communities.
She completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology and a residency in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Choi earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and her doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
