Shane Randall Hess is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement in addition to revision hip and knee replacement. Dr Hess grew up in Colorado enjoying all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer. He received an undergraduate double major degree in Chemistry and Biology at Colorado State University-Pueblo (formerly the University of Southern Colorado). His desire to become a physician took him to Des Moines University - College of Osteopathic Medicine during which he spent an extra year in training focusing solely on the musculoskeletal system. It was during this time he discovered his love for orthopedic surgery.
After graduation from medical school, he completed a five-year orthopedic residency training program at Michigan State University - McLaren Greater Lansing. During his time at Michigan State University, his passion for total joint replacement was revealed and he went on to complete a 1 year fellowship specializing in adult reconstruction at Virginia Commonwealth University. His love and passion for adult reconstruction continue to push him to provide the very best for his patients by incorporating the latest techniques and using evidence-based medicine to guide practices and principles. He is active in research with several publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. He has given local and national lectures on important topics related to hip and knee replacement and is a peer-reviewer for publications sent to the Journal of Arthroplasty and Arthroplasty Today. Dr Hess is part of Hope Orthopedics of Oregon in Salem, Oregon who is revolutionizing the delivery of total joint replacement in the heart of the Willamette Valley by offering robotic arm-assisted hip and knee replacement at Willamette Surgery Center focusing on same-day outpatient surgery.
