Shane Wells MD

Dr. Shane Wells is an abdominal radiologist and physician-scientist with clinical expertise in hepatobiliary and genitourinary imaging and intervention, and serves as the Director of the Cross-Sectional Interventional Radiology (CSIR) section. His interdisciplinary, collaborative, NIH-funded research programs focus on developing and translating advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound (US), and Molecular Imaging, particularly quantitative imaging biomarkers, to improve health outcomes.

Specific areas of research interest include improving the detection of clinically significant primary prostate cancer, investigating the functional and molecular tumor microenvironment of advanced prostate cancer, optimizing oncologic outcomes during tumor ablation, and identifying prostate phenotypes that contribute to lower urinary tract symptoms. Dr. Wells is an active member of the Michigan Institute of Imaging Technology and Translation (MIITT).
