Dr. Shakil Ahmed is the Medical Director of the Division of Pain Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology, and Director of the Tri-Institutional Pain Fellowship Program. He joined the Anesthesiology Dept of New York Weill Cornell Center in 2002 after graduating from the anesthesia residency program at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Prior to achieving Board Certification in Anesthesiology from the American Board of Anesthesiology, he completed his surgical training in the UK, where he was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. He developed a particular interest in the management of complex pain during his neurosurgical training at the Liverpool Pain Center.

Dr. Ahmed began his medical career as a surgeon before specializing in Anesthesiology. He joined the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College as a Pain Medicine physician in the Anesthesiology Department in 2002. He began his New York Presbyterian Hospital training as a burn fellow. He then went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at the New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University in 2001, finishing his Pain Medicine Fellowship at the Weill Cornell campus in 2002. Dr. Ahmed received his MBBS from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan in 1981. He completed his surgical training in the UK, where he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
