Dr. Shaan Mohammed Raza is Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurosurgical Director of the Multidisciplinary Skull Base and Pituitary Program. He is also Section Chief for Skull Base Surgery and Vice-Chair in the Department of Neurosurgery. With advanced fellowship training in open and endoscopic skull base surgery, Dr. Raza’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical and multidisciplinary management of benign and malignant skull base tumors. He is internationally recognized for his surgical expertise in skull base surgery and in the development of management strategies for challenging skull base tumors. 

Dr. Raza fully strives to provide patients with the best possible clinical and quality-of-life outcomes while providing compassionate and innovative care. As part of a larger team of specialists in the Skull Base Tumor Program, he also works with other clinical experts to develop coordinated treatment plans consisting of surgical and non-surgical options. In line with his clinical expertise, his research strives to refine surgical strategies and develop overall treatment strategies in order to improve outcomes for patients.

Dr. Raza received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He subsequently completed his residency in Neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital during which he also completed a two-year NIH-funded clinical and research fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology. After residency, Dr. Raza completed fellowships in open skull base surgery at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and endoscopic and minimally invasive skull base surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College – New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Reflective of his contributions to the clinical management of patients with skull base pathology, Dr Raza is the recipient of numerous awards including the Sir Charles Ballance Award from the British Skull Base Society. He is frequently invited nationally and internationally to teach surgical techniques and treatment strategies to other specialists. He has also been and is currently recognized by several national rankings, such as Castle Connolly Top Doctor, Texas Monthly Top Doctor, and Houstonia Magazine’s Top Doctors of Houston.
