Sergio A. Carrillo, MD, is a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon with the Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital. A native of Guatemala, Dr. Carrillo obtained his medical degree from Universidad San Carlos graduating in 2002. He completed his postgraduate training in the United States at prestigious Institutions such as Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL; University of Louisville, Louisville, KY and Ohio State University in Columbus, OH which included rotations with the current Nationwide Children's Heart Center team in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
He honed his skills with one of the foremost Congenital Heart Surgeons of the 20th century, Dr. Aldo Castañeda for two years in Guatemala. Following that, he completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Congenital Heart Surgery at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA under the tutelage of Dr. Frank Hanley, from whom he learned the Unifocalization procedure for a subset of patients with TOF.
