Sergey N. Krylov obtained a Ph.D. degree in Biophysical Chemistry at Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1990, where he studied enzymatic reactions that produce chemiluminescence. He continued this work in Dr. Dunford's laboratory at the University of Alberta, where he was able to elucidate the mechanism of non-linear behaviors in the inhibition of chemiluminescent enzymatic reactions by phenols. In 1996 Dr. Krylov joined the laboratory of Dr. Dovichi at the University of Alberta, where they pioneered instrumentation and methods for Chemical Cytometry, a powerful technique that allows the analysis of chemical contents of individual cells.

Dr. Krylov's first faculty appointment was made at the Associate Professor level at York University in 2000. He was advanced to full professorship within 6 years. In 2020, Dr. Krylov became a Distinguished Research Professor. Research in Dr. Krylov's laboratory has been focused on the development of novel bioanalytical tools.
