Sergey B. Zotchev PhD

Dr. Sergey Zotchev obtained his PhD at the Research Institute for Genetics and Selection of Industrial Microorganisms (Moscow, Russia). He did his postdoctoral studies in Germany (University of Osnabrück), USA (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Sweden (Karolinska Institute), and Norway (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU). From 2001to 2015 was a Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). From 2011 to 2012 he was a visiting Professor at the University of Berkeley (Berkeley, USA). Since September 2015 Sergey Zotchev is appointed as a Full Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, University of Vienna (Austria). His main areas of expertise are bioprospecting for bioactive compounds from bacteria and fungi, comparative bacterial genomics, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology.
