Sebastian Trautmann studied psychology at the Technical University of Dresden. In the meantime, he worked in long-term therapy for addictions in Vienna/Lower Austria. After graduating, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, where he received his doctorate in 2015. He then worked at the Institute for Behavioral Epidemiology at the Technical University of Dresden. In addition to his scientific work, he completed training as a psychological psychotherapist (VT). Since October 2018, Sebastian Trautmann has held a professorship for clinical psychology and psychotherapy with a focus on behavioral therapy at the Medical School Hamburg.
Sebastian Trautmann's research interest lies primarily in investigating the effects of stress and traumatic events on the development and treatment of mental disorders. A major goal of his work is the identification of risk factors for mental disorders after stressful events based on psychological, social, and biological characteristics and the investigation of underlying mechanisms. He uses both epidemiological and experimental studies. His research on the mechanisms of stress and alcohol consumption has been recognized by the North German Addiction Research Association and the European Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism.
Sebastian Trautmann is co-editor of the International Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research (IJMPR), review editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry, and associate editor for the Journal of European Psychology Students initiative. He also works as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous national and international journals. Sebastian Trautmann is a member of the Clinical Psychology group of the German Society for Psychology and the German Association of Psychotherapists.
