Dr. Sebastian V. Rojas is a Senior Physician and Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Heart and Diabetes Center NRW in Germany. He graduated in 2008 from Hannover Medical School. After graduating from medical school he completed a fellowship in cardiac stem cell research at the Leibniz Research Laboratories for Biotechnology and Artificial Organs (LEBAO) (Head Prof. U. Martin, Prof. A. Haverich). In 2013 he finalized his doctoral thesis “Fibrinogen as Biomatrix for cardiac transplantation of induced pluripotent stem cells”. In 2017 he completed his residency in cardiac surgery with a focus on mechanical circulatory support and thoracic organ transplantation at Hannover Medical School (Director: Prof. A. Haverich). The same year he became co-director of cardiac transplantation at the same institution.
In 2019, Sebastian joined the Heart and Diabetes Centre NRW in Bad Oeynhausen (Director Prof. J. Gummert) as a staff cardiac surgeon with a focus on adult cardiac surgery, MCS, and cardiac transplantation. Since 2021, Sebastian is also a member of the faculty at Hannover Medical School. His clinical and research interests involve cardiac stem cell therapy, thoracic organ transplantation, and MCS.
