Dr. Leptihn is an Associate Professor at Zhejiang - Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) in Haining. After receiving his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Technical University of Munich in Germany, Dr. Leptihn joined the Singapore-MIT-Alliance at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where he studied the mechanism of Antimicrobial Peptides (AMPs). Using traditional biochemistry methods as well as single-molecule biophysics, he studied the interaction of AMPs with cell membranes and artificial lipid bilayers. At the University of Oxford, he worked on artificial membrane systems, again with single-molecule methods, developing a novel reconstitution method using Droplet-Interface-Bilayers. In 2011, Dr. Leptihn became a PI at the University of Hohenheim (Germany), focusing on the insertion and assembly of membrane proteins using single-molecule methods. After his habilitation in biochemistry, he joined the ZJE to continue his research on membrane protein complexes. Currently, the Leptin group focuses on membrane-embedded secretion systems, with clinical implications for disease treatment.
