Drs. Streukens has been working as a cardiologist at Maastricht UMC + since 2015, where he also received his training (from 2009). He is a general cardiologist with a special focus on non-invasive imaging of the heart (echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI). He has European certification for echocardiography (both TTE and TEE) and cardiac MRI (CMR).
Since 2017 he has been the medical head of the echocardiography department of the Hart + Vaat Centrum. He is also a member of the mitral valve heart team, which is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of mitral valve abnormalities. He is involved in the mitral valve clinic as well as the imaging diagnostics and the echocardiographic guidance of minimally invasive mitral valve interventions.
Drs Streukens is currently working on PhD research into the role of sodium fluoride (18F-NaF) cardiac PET-MRI for the detection of unstable plaques in people with myocardial infarction (NSTEMI).
