Sebastiaan Engelborghs obtained his degree as medical doctor with summa cum laude in 1995 at the Free University of Brussels (V.U.B.). He then followed a Master after Master in Clinical Neurology and became a board certified neurologist in 2001 at UAntwerp where he also obtained a PhD in medical sciences (2004). In 2004, he established the Reference Centre for Biological Markers of Dementia (BIODEM) at UAntwerp and was appointed assistant professor. In 2008, he was promoted to associate professor and was board certified in Neurological Revalidation in 2009. In 2011, Sebastiaan was appointed research professor neurosciences – neurochemistry at the University of Antwerp and became full professor neurosciences – neurochemistry in 2014.
