Sean Murphy PhD

Sean leads the data science team at Voconiq, a rapidly-growing startup bringing quantitative rigor to the field of social risk and social license. Voconiq works across fields like infrastructure, mining, and agriculture, helping companies to quantify and understand their impacts on the communities in which they operate. In doing so, Voconiq helps to build more socially responsible and sustainable companies.

Previously, Sean worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he specialized in extracting psychological insights from complex datasets. He used experimental and longitudinal research designs, as well as extensive work in text mining. His published research helps us to understand how people create meaning in life, and how our cultural understandings of what it means to harm and be harmed have changed over time. Sean has taught several popular courses on both R and advanced statistical modeling.
