Scott Zamvil MD, PhD

Dr. Scott Zamvil is a neurologist who specializes in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. He joined UCSF Medical Center in 1988. Prior to joining UCSF, he was a neurologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. For his work in multiple sclerosis, he was named a Harry Weaver Neuroscience Scholar by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in 1994. He has received funding for research from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Institutes of Health, Wadsworth Foundation and Maisin Foundation. His research explores the role of different antigen presenting cells in the activation of T cells and the possible therapeutic uses of statins, or cholesterol-lowering drugs, in MS.

Zamvil earned his medical degree and doctorate in medical microbiology from Stanford University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Stanford and a residency in neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
