Scott Howard, MD, MSc, a hematologist/oncologist in Memphis, Tennessee, is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He did his residency in internal medicine and pediatrics in Memphis, followed by hematology/oncology fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and an epidemiology degree at the University of Tennessee.
He has 20 years of experience conducting clinical trials and strengthening health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), and his research focuses on management of acute lymphoblastic leukemia; relapsed leukemia; all aspects of supportive care, including thrombosis, pancreatitis, tumor lysis syndrome and other complications; and adapting treatment regimens to local conditions.
Scott serves as the Secretary-General for the International Pediatric Oncology Society (https://siop-online.org/), chairs the board of World Child Cancer USA (www.WorldChildCancer.us), and works closely with colleagues from Latin America, Africa, and Asia to implement quality improvement measures and develop training programs. In 2015 he founded Resonance Oncology (www.ResonanceOncology.org), a company dedicated to improving care for cancer patients everywhere, but especially in LMIC, through research and clinical use of healthcare information technology. In LMIC, Resonance Oncology software is available at no cost to facilitate quality improvement efforts, clinical research, adherence monitoring, and reporting on quality metrics, such as drug shortages. Scott has written 200 scientific papers, 20 book chapters, and a book.
