Dr. Satish S.C. Rao, MD, Ph.D., is a professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology at the Digestive Health Center at Augusta University. His research interests focus on the pathophysiology and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, food intolerance (particularly fructose), constipation, fecal incontinence and visceral pain, particularly esophageal chest pain. He has pioneered several new techniques of evaluating the esophageal, gastric, colonic, and anorectal function, in particular, the brain-gut axis, for which he has several patents, and he has pioneered the technique of biofeedback therapy for dyssynergic defecation.
