Dr. Sarah J. Kilpatrick, MD, PhD, is a distinguished physician-scientist and leader in obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, and women’s health. She serves as the Helping Hand of Los Angeles Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Diversity at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a major academic medical center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Kilpatrick holds dual degrees—a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Tulane University School of Medicine and a PhD in Biopsychology from the University of Chicago. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she also served on the faculty for several years.
Before joining Cedars-Sinai in 2011, Dr. Kilpatrick spent over a decade at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where she was Division Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, President of the Medical Staff at UIC Medical Center, and Vice Dean for the College of Medicine.
At Cedars-Sinai, she has played a central role in expanding clinical programs—such as family planning and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery—fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and launching initiatives focused on leadership, diversity, and faculty development. She also co-leads the multidisciplinary Center for Research on Women’s Health and Sex Differences (CREWHS), which supports research aimed at improving women’s healthcare.
Clinically, Dr. Kilpatrick is recognized for her expertise in high-risk pregnancies, including the management of hypertension in pregnancy, preterm birth, and other maternal and fetal complications. Her research and clinical interests also encompass maternal morbidity and mortality, cardiovascular risk after adverse pregnancy outcomes, and quality and safety in obstetric care.
