Dr. Sara Bolton received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed her adult psychiatry residence at McLean Hospital. She is also a graduate of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and has advanced training in neuropsychiatry. She has a B.A. from Williams College, where she majored in conflict analysis and resolution.
Dr. Bolton is the medical director of the McLean Hospital clinical evaluation and emergency service. Prior to this, Dr. Bolton served as the psychiatrist-in-charge of the PTSD unit at McLean and worked on teams to develop protocols for the treatment of patients suffering with substance abuse disorders.
Dr. Bolton is experienced in managing several hospitals and system-wide quality improvement programs. She also taught medical students and psychiatry residents. She served as President of the McLean Staff Association and was elected to the council of the Massachusetts Psychiatry Society. Dr. Bolton also served as the Assessment Director at the Physician Health Society, a subsidiary of the Massachusetts Medical Society. As the Assessment Director, she helped doctors with addiction problems including other health concerns.
