Dr. Sara Nicole Horst is a Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Ohio Northern University in 2000. Dr. Horst completed her medical school, where she graduated Cum Laude at The Ohio State University. She also completed her Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at The Ohio State University. She then went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a Gastroenterology fellowship and to obtain her Master of Public Health.
Dr. Horst joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2011. She specializes in the clinical care of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She has presented at national conferences, published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association. She is also an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Horst also has an interest in clinical informatics. She is an Epic Physician builder, a VUMC Clinical Health IT director, and the Associate Vice Chair of Digital Health Operations for the Department of Medicine. She is the chair of the National GI Epic Steering Committee. She is also the interim Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Medicine, Medical Director for Telehealth, and the Medical Director for VUMC Specialty Pharmacy. She serves on the VUMC P&T Committee.
