Dr. Sandra Hernandez Aldave, Ph.D. is a Lecturer in Forensic Science at the University of Huddersfield. Sandra graduated with honors from the University of Basque country (Spain) in 2015, having completed her chemistry degree with a minor in polymer science. During her degree, she worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University synthesizing graphene-silver nanohybrids and analyzing its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. She was also granted a scholarship to work as a researcher at the University of Texas at Austin for a period of 6 months with Professor Akinwande, where she was able to fabricate a novel 2D material, phosphorene, for microelectronics application. After her degree, she was awarded the Santander scholarship to work in the CIDETEC research center (Spain) in the development of single-chain polymers and their application in drug delivery. After this, she was granted a KESS studentship to conduct her Ph.D. with Dr. Bertoncello at Swansea University, developing nanocomposite materials for sensing applications and detection of food analytes and illicit drugs. In 2019, she started as a Postdoctoral researcher at the ERSI building at Swansea University, working in the carbon capture and utilization field in collaboration with multiple Welsh industries. She has participated in multiple international conferences and projects, and in 2020 she got awarded the Global Wales International Research Mobility Fund to facilitate research opportunities with the University of Alicante (Spain).
