As Director of the MES Coding and Billing Department, Sandy Steele is one of our resident experts in emergency medicine coding and billing services. Not only is she a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), she is also a Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) and has earned her Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) status, which places her in an elite class of specialists. In 2012, Sandy achieved certification as an ambulance coder (CAC). Since 1983, Sandy has been an integral part of the MES team, providing valuable leadership and educational information to the group.
Sandy’s industry involvement includes participation in payer group and educational activities. She is a member of the CHAMPS (Medicaid) workgroup as well as a physician representative of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan Provider Relations Liaison committee. As a resource to these payers, she provides important data to improve reimbursement for emergency medicine physicians. Since 2006 she has been a faculty member of the Straight Talk reimbursement course offered by the Michigan College of Emergency Physicians. This annual program provides valuable information and updates for emergency physicians, coding and billing professionals, and physician group managers.
