Samuele Butera is the Global Commercial Strategy Leader for the therapeutic area of ​​infectious diseases and vaccines. He leads initiatives to build and maximize the value of our Infectious Diseases portfolio and pipeline in areas of significant unmet medical need such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV ), and the flu. With a proven track record in global healthcare innovation and business leadership, Samuele serves patients, professionals, and healthcare systems around the world to deliver transformational solutions.

Prior to joining Janssen, Samuele spent 13 years at Novartis where he most recently served as Global Cell & Gene Therapies Business Leader in Oncology. In this role, he was responsible for leading and overseeing all of Novartis' businesses to ensure the successful global launch of cell and gene therapies, including the first CAR-T cell-based treatment for children and youth. adults with acute B-lymphoblastic leukemia. He also oversaw the market readiness for the launch of the first biosimilar in the United States while leading the Biopharmaceuticals division of Sandoz, Americas North.

Samuele was previously a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he advised clients on corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, alliances, operational excellence, and corporate restructuring. He has also worked in financial markets at Goldman Sachs and on international economic development projects with the United Nations. Samuele earned a bachelor's degree in international economics from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, and a master's degree in public policy from Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
