Pr. Levy is currently a full professor of medicine and cardiology at the University of Méditerranée, Marseille School of Medicine and in the Division of Cardiology at Hôpital Nord in Marseille, France. After medical and postgraduate training at the University of Paris, School of Medicine, Pr. Lévy completed several fellowships in internal medicine and cardiology at hospitals in France, University of Marseille as well as a senior fellowship at the University of Miami School of Medicine in USA from July 1971-July 1973.

In 1975, he became professor of cardiology at the University of Bordeaux, and in 1979, he became professor of medicine and cardiology at the University of Marseille School of Medicine. Pr.Lévy was promoted in 1991 to first class professor of cardiology and in 2003 he received the University's highest promotion as Professor of Exceptional Class (Professeur de Classe Exceptionnelle)

Pr. Levy is a noted researcher in the study of cardiac arrhythmias particularly atrial fibrillation and electrophysiology, having authored or co-authored more than 300 related scientific papers and articles, as well as an investigator for a number of other clinical trials relating to management of cardiac arrhythmias. His special interests include sudden cardiac death and implantable cardioverter defibrillators and congestive heart failure. He was part of the Committee who wrote the ACC/AHA/ESC Guidelines on Atrial Fibrillation (Circulation 2001) and on then Guidelines on Heart Failure of the European Society of Cardiology (European Heart J 2005)
