Dr. Samir C. Grover is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Grover’s research is primarily in endoscopy education, and specifically in the application of simulation and technology-enhanced learning strategies to endoscopy education. Among other areas, his research has demonstrated that curricular approaches to endoscopy simulation are superior to ad hoc training and that training of progressive fidelity and complexity in endoscopy simulation improves transfer to the clinical setting. His research work has also evaluated simulation to teach non-technical skills in endoscopy and to teach ergonomic behaviours.
Dr. Grover also conducts meta-research into the methodology of clinical gastroenterology research and conflicts of interest related to gastroenterology drug approvals and recommendations. His work has helped define competencies that are used in gastroenterology residency training programs for endoscopy in Canada. It has also led to the development of the University of Toronto Endoscopic Simulation Course, an award-winning introductory course that prepares entry-level endoscopic trainees in adult gastroenterology, pediatric gastroenterology, and general surgery for their first procedural rotations in gastroenterology. He has taught in several international courses, including the ASGE First-Year Fellows Course and the Toronto Therapeutic Endoscopy Course (T-TEC).
