Salvador Aznar Benitah PhD

Dr. Salvador Aznar since 2013 is principal investigator of the laboratory "Mother Cells and Cancer" at the Institute of Biomedical Research, IRB Barcelona. His research focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms that enable the proper functioning of adult stem cells and how it influences the appearance of tumors, studying how they regenerate human tissues, because age and because the tumors developed times, mainly in the skin and the oral mucosa, which represent the second and fifth most common cancers in industrialized societies.

Degree in Biochemistry McGill University Montreal, received his PhD at the Institute of Biomedical Research Autonomous UniversityMadrid. After a period of four years as a postdoctoral researcher at the London Research Institute, Cancer Research UK, in 2006 he joined the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and since September 2013 the IRB. According to Dr. Aznar, "Barcelona has become in the last decade in a city of world leader in basic and clinical biomedical research."
