Sally Thorne is a Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia, where she has maintained a longstanding program of substantive research and publication in the fields of cancer and chronic illness experience. She has been active in the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology, serving as the inaugural Director-at-Large for Research on the CANO Board from 2011-2014, and currently serves as an Editorial Board member for the Canadian Oncology Nursing Journal.

She is currently Associate Editor of Qualitative Health Research, and Editor-in-Chief of Nursing Inquiry, as well as author of many publications on applied qualitative research methodology, including the a popular text, Interpretive Description, that integrates a nursing angle of vision into qualitative design logic.
