Saida Mebarek obtained her PhD in Biochemistry at INSA Lyon, in the Laboratory of Lipid and Membrane Physiopathology, INSA-INSERM UMR585, in January 2006. From September 2006 to September 2007, she completed a postdoctoral internship, funded by the CNRS in Marseille in the UMR CNRS 6126 team at the Institute of Developmental Biology of Marseille in Luminy. In September 2007, she was recruited as a Lecturer to teach at the University of Lyon 1 and carry out her research at the MEM2 laboratory, ICBMS UMR CNRS 5246. She obtained her accreditation to direct research in September 2015 and was promoted to hors class at the national level in 2022.
Saida Mebarek is interested in vascular disturbances involved in metabolic syndrome, particularly those in chronic renal failure and atherosclerosis. Her research focuses on the role of lipid signaling, particularly the involvement of phospholipase D in physiological but also pathological mineralization processes, such as vascular calcification and bone metastasis of prostate cancer. She is also interested in the involvement of extracellular vesicles (exosomes and matrix vesicles) in pathophysiological mineralization processes. These vesicles represent an alternative and versatile mode of communication, which opens the door to new concepts and opportunities, both biological and therapeutic.
