Sabine Eichinger is a specialist in internal medicine and hemato-oncology and has been employed at the University Clinic for Internal Medicine I at the Medical University of Vienna since 1988. She heads the anticoagulant outpatient clinic in the Department of Hematology and Hemostaseology at the University Clinic for Internal Medicine I. She gained international experience during a lengthy study visit to Harvard University in Boston (USA).

Her scientific focus is in the field of thrombosis research. She is head of the world's largest cohort study to record risk factors for venous thromboembolism (Austrian Study on Recurrent Venous Thromboembolism). In addition, she deals with aspects of coagulation physiology in women and examines the pathophysiological relationships between tumors and thrombosis. Ms. Univ.-Prof. dr Eichinger with laboratory experimental studies to investigate the activation of the human coagulation system.

Univ.-Prof. in dr in Eichinger is a member of numerous international societies and editorial boards of renowned scientific journals. She has chaired the Scientific Subcommittee on Women's Health Issues of the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis since 2004 and has served as Chair since 2008. In 2005 she received the Alexander Schmidt Prize from the Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research.

Since 2012 she has been Chairman-elect of the Scientific and Standardization Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
