S. David McSwain, MD, MPH, FAAP, is the System Chief Medical Information Officer for the MUSC Health system and an Associate Professor of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at MUSC Children’s Hospital. He is the Co-Founder of the SPROUT Supporting Pediatric Research on Outcomes and Utilization of Telehealth National Telehealth Research Collaborative, the Main Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded (NCATS) SPROUT-CTSA Collaborative Telehealth Research Network, and the Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Telehealth Care (SOTC).

Dr. McSwain is an established leader and dynamic speaker on a wide range of topics: health IT, digital and connected health, clinician wellness, patient and family engagement, quality and safety, leadership, and critical care. He is passionate about building collaborations of patient, family, and clinician-focused innovators to solve complex national and global healthcare problems. Dr. McSwain is the recipient of the 2018 American Telemedicine Association Champion Award, awarded to one individual in the country who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in the advancement of quality telehealth practice, policies, and adoption at the local, state, national, or international level.

Dr. McSwain earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Duke University, including a concentration in Neuroscience. He completed his MD and MPH in Health Policy and Administration as well as a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UNC-Chapel Hill and his fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Duke University.
