Ryan Nord, MD received his MD degree in 2011 from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he graduated with a distinction in research in Otolaryngology. He completed his residency training in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2016. Dr. Nord is board-certified in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and joined Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2016 as an Assistant Professor and Director of Sleep Surgery. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021.

Dr. Nord’s clinical expertise focuses on the surgical management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), with particular emphasis on Upper Airway Stimulation (UAS). This implanted nerve stimulation therapy is designed to maintain upper airway patency during sleep for patients who have failed first-line treatment options. He has lectured extensively on sleep surgery and UAS at both local and national levels.

A strong proponent of collaborative, multidisciplinary care, Dr. Nord founded the Multidisciplinary Sleep Apnea Clinic at VCU Health, which brings together specialists from diverse fields to treat complex and treatment-resistant cases of sleep apnea.

Dr. Nord actively contributes to his profession as a peer reviewer for multiple medical journals and through service on professional committees, including the program committee of the Virginia Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Disorders Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. He is an active member of the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology and the International Sleep Surgical Society.

His achievements include regional and national research awards, and he has been recognized as a Richmond Magazine “Best Bedside Manner” award recipient. Dr. Nord is passionate about mentoring future healthcare leaders through his role as a medical student coach and frequently provides educational lectures to the community to raise awareness of the risks of untreated sleep apnea.
