Dr. DenHaese is Board Certified as a neurosurgeon. He received his undergraduate degree from Niagara University and then studied at Roswell Park Cancer Institute before receiving his Medical Doctorate with high honors from the University at Buffalo. He received a prestigious grant to do research for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and then went on to complete his neurosurgical training at the University of Maryland.
Since then Dr. DenHaese has gone on to lecture at neurosurgical meetings, and publish in medical journals. He trains other neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons in minimally invasive operative approaches to the spine. His practice also consists of performing research to advance disc replacement through minimally invasive approaches. Business First recently named Dr. DenHaese as one of Western New York’s young leaders, selecting him to the prestigious “Forty Under Forty”.
Well-versed in traditional spine surgeries, he also specializes in minimally invasive spinal technology which allows for: a shorter recovery time, smaller incisions, less hospitalization and minimal tissue destruction. Spinal cord monitoring is often integrated into surgeries, which provides additional protection to his patients. His goal is always for avoidance of surgery and conservative care where applicable. However, when patients require surgical intervention for spinal reconstruction or decompression his emphasis is on minimally invasive spinal surgery and motion preservation.
Dr. DenHaese has extensive experience in degenerative spinal conditions, artificial disc replacement, spinal reconstruction, scoliosis, neuro-oncolgy, and trauma. Dr DenHaese has trained over 300 US, Mexican and European surgeons in MIS and lateral surgery. He is also director of medical education for LANX and Biomet for MIS spine and Lateral approaches.
