Ruth Farrell, MD, MA is dedicated to improving women’s health by caring for patients and leading high-impact translational research. As a staff member of the Cleveland Clinic, she is a board-certified OB/GYN and holds the Vice-Chair of Research for the Clinic’s OB/GYN and Women’s Health Institute where she provides the resources for the conduct of high-impact clinical research. She actively supports the career development of physician-researchers with guidance, education, and mentorship. In addition, she is a staff member in the Center for Bioethics and Genomic Medicine Institute. Dr. Farrell is Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine where she teaches on the latest case studies involving complex ethical issues, clinical research, and women’s health.

Dr. Farrell received her M.A. in Bioethics and M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. Following residency, she completed the Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics and Health Policy at the Johns Hopkins Berman Bioethics Institute and the Georgetown Kennedy Institute of Ethics during which time she also served as the J. Benjamin Younger Fellow of Policy at the ASRM and a Reproductive Policy Fellow at the Genetics and Public Policy Center in Washington, DC. Soon after joining the Cleveland Clinic in 2006, she received an NIH KL2/Multidisciplinary Clinical Translational Research Scholar Award.

Dr. Farrell’s research focuses on decision-analysis, shared decision-making, and informed consent for the integration of new genetic and reproductive technologies into women's health. She has been generously funded by the NIH, the March of Dimes, and the Templeton Foundation. She serves on numerous national committees for lead professional medical organizations in women’s health and reproductive medicine, including those of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
