Rute S Moura holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Porto and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Leon (Spain). Currently, she is an Affiliated Researcher at the Surgical Sciences and Allied Technologies Team. Her research interests include the study of molecular mechanisms involved in lung development, namely signaling pathways relevant to normal/abnormal pulmonary development, using the chicken embryo as a model. She has characterized the molecular mechanisms underlying early chick lung development and contributed to establishing the avian lung as a surrogate to the mammalian models to study branching morphogenesis. More recently, she has been interested in studying the interplay between signaling and metabolism during early pulmonary development, and exploring the potential of the in-ovo model to mimic conditions that impair embryonic development, for instance, hyperglycemia.
