Rudolf Ascherl

Prof. Dr. Rudolf Ascherl was chief physician of orthopedic accident surgery departments in several clinics in Germany. Since 01.10.2014 he heads the clinic for special surgery and endoprosthetics at the hospital in Tirschenreuth.

His specializations are in particular in the field of limb surgery and replacement arthroplasty, which deal with the replacement and renewal of artificial knee and hip joints. The arthroplasty, especially in patients with infections of the bones and joints, is a highly specialized field of work in orthopedics and is performed nationwide only at a few centers. Due to the significant increase in primary implantation of endoprostheses in recent years and the demographic change, an increase in the number of replacement prostheses is expected in the future. Prof. Ascherl would therefore like to build "an exemplary supply model at a high level for these difficult treatments".
