Roy Mitchel Fleischmann MD

Dr. Roy Mitchel Fleischmann MD, received his medical degree from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, and is board certified in internal medicine with subspecialty certification in rheumatology. He is a clinical professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and has a private practice in rheumatology.

Dr. Fleischmann has been active in the University’s teaching program, mentoring students, residents, and fellows. He established a clinical research center for the development of new drugs for the treatment of RA, PsA, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, gout, and osteoarthritis. More than 1000 clinical studies have been performed in the center.

Dr. Fleischmann has authored more than 250 manuscripts on the management of RA, which have been published in peer-reviewed journals and authored over 400 abstracts, presented at rheumatology meetings worldwide. Dr. Fleischmann has helped design, implement and report studies on virtually every medication approved for the treatment of RA and has been involved in clinical trial development programs of the 3 approved JAK inhibitors. He was an early proponent of the aggressive treatment of RA and measuring disease activity to guide treatment decisions.

Dr. Fleischmann is a master of the American College of Rheumatology, an Overseas Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and a former president of the Texas Rheumatism Association and the Dallas–Fort Worth Rheumatism Association. He is a reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Arthritis Rheumatism, Annals of Rheumatic Disease, and The Journal of Rheumatology. He is editor-in-chief of Rheumatology and Therapy and was an associate editor for Rheumatology. Dr. Fleischmann is on the editorial board of Annals of Rheumatic Disease, RMD Open, and The Journal of Rheumatology, and was selected as one of the top 5% of reviewers for Arthritis and Rheumatology, Arthritis Care and Research and Annals of Internal Medicine. Dr. Fleischmann has been recognized as an outstanding clinician by D Magazine and Texas Monthly and has frequently been selected as one of America’s best physicians.
