Dr. Bloebaum is Research Professor and holds the Albert and Margaret Hofmann Chair in Orthopaedic Research. He is an internationally recognized expert in bone healing and total joint replacement. Dr. Bloebaum is a senior VA Hospital Research Scientist and Co-Director of the VA Bone and Joint Research Lab, which is a collaborative research program with the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System Research and Development Program. In addition, he is a Research Career Scientist at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Salt Lake City Health Care System.

Dr. Bloebaum’s publications include over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts on bone and total joint replacement-related topics. He received his doctorate, as a Rotary International Scholar, from the University of Western Australia. Dr. Bloebaum served on the faculty at the University of Southern California and Arizona State prior to taking a position at the Department of Orthopaedics. Dr. Bloebaums’ research interests are biomaterials, bone, total joint replacement, articular cartilage, and electron microscopy, including pioneering efforts in backscattered electron imaging. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research.
